Pink and Grey

Pink and Grey

Happy Tuesday! Today is a special Tuesday because it just so happens that my mom's birthday is today! I told you all how I was going home last weekend for a surprise birthday party for her and it was an AMAZING day filled with lots of love, laughter, yummy food, drinks and unforgettable moments.

Do you ever find that you have certain colors that you just can't help but pair? Like for me when I think of the color pink, I immediately see grey. I love how the two colors compliment one another so effortlessly. Look at how gorgeous this basic tee and tank look with this long cardigan. The colors are soft and add such a femininity to the entire outfit.

Most often on the weekend you will find me sporting a hat of some sort. Growing up I always loved hats and that has carried on into my adulthood. When I came across this satin and floral hat I knew it had to be a part of my collection! Seriously though, is it not the cutest hat and so perfect for spring?!?

These raw hem jeans from H&M are to die for! Not only do I love the hem, but you know me and distressed denim. I just can't seem to get enough of them! I am particular with jeans, but I usually do pretty well when it comes to H&M denim. The high waist is great for tucking that tummy in a bit. A high waist is also perfect for those crop tops that want to wear without exposing your entire stomach!

Can we just talk about how cute the accessories are for this look?? I love a good pair of comfy white kicks. They are a footwear essential. I can see these shoes paired with jeans, leggings, shorts, and skirts and for $13!! HELLO!! The earrings are such a pretty color and can be worn with a more casual look and will compliment a dressy outfit just as well. Last but definitely not least--this grey suede bag that is also from H&M. The bag is a bit on the pricier side for H&M, but it is genuine suede...so that explains that.

Hope you all have a fabulous rest of your week!!

Spring Fever

Spring Florals

Floral Top // Skinny Distressed Jean // Faux Suede Espadrille // Floral OTS Romper
Mauve Strappy Heels // Tiffany Tassel Drops

Hi lovely friends! I hope everyone has had a great week so far! I am looking forward to a quick trip "home" to NY this weekend. My mom is turning 65 and we are having a surprise birthday party for her!

So, Monday was the first official day of SPRING! Woot!! Spring is probably my most favorite season to go through. I love waking up to the sound of chirping birds and seeing the gorgeous pink cherry blossom trees blooming. We hit 86 degrees here in Charlotte on Tuesday, which isn't really spring temperatures, but I didn't hate it!

With spring officially in season, I decided to share some of my current obsessions. I am all about florals and will be wearing plenty of them during the upcoming weeks. Off the shoulder tops are also going to continue to make many appearances. I just love how an off the shoulder top can add just the right amount of sexy, without being overly exposed.

I told myself that I am going to try and accessorize more. Normally I am not one to wear much jewelry-- wait I hardly ever wear jewelry. However, I think experimenting and stepping out of your comfort zone is good way to challenge oneself. These tassel earrings from Bauble Bar have caught my eye more than once, so they just may be the perfect piece to start with!

Would love to hear some of your spring time obsessions!

Who Am I?

Hi, friends! I thought I would take today to let you know more about who I am. I love sharing all about my outfits, but why not share something a little more personal?!
So here goes...

1. I grew up on Long Island. I spent my first 24 years there before relocating to North Carolina.

2. My family still lives in the house I grew up in.

3. I am adopted from Seoul, South Korea.

4. My mom is Italian and my dad is German. I grew up eating some of the most amazing foods.

5. I have one older sister. Her name is Lauren.

6. I am a hopeless romantic. Maybe that is why I am still single. Ha.

7. My second grade teacher was wonderful. She made me realize I wanted to be an elementary school teacher.

8. I got an overhead projector one year for Christmas and it was amazing. My garage/classroom was complete after that one.

9. I have no middle name.

10. Ryan Gosling is my celebrity crush. I was crushing on him back when he was on the Mickey Mouse Club.

11. I was born on the Fourth of July and used to be petrified of fireworks growing up.

12. My hair is all mine. No extensions necessary for this girl.

13. I have never traveled out of the United States. Sad. I know.

14. Christmas is my favorite holiday because I get to spend it back on Long Island with my family.

15. I have no tattoos, but am looking to get my first one soon.

16. My favorite food is Thai, but sushi is a very close second.

17. I am a die hard John Mayer fan and have been to a concert for every tour he has had. I can not wait until his tour later this year.

18. My dream job is to become a yoga teacher who travels the world while sharing my practice.

19. Peonies are my favorite bloom.

20. I am a bit OCD. For example, if I open a pack of colored candies, I have to sort them into color piles before I will eat them.

I hope you enjoyed getting to know more about the person behind Simple As!

-Xoxo

Black and Gold Sunnies

Hi everyone!! I feel like it has been forever since my last post! I am catching up on all things Simple As. I had the most AMAZING time visiting and exploring Florida with my friend, Maria! Let me tell you...I could spend the rest of my days out on a beach. Growing up surrounded by beaches, spending my summers in the water, one sure does go through withdrawal living in an area where the closest beach is about 3 hours away.

One thing about me is that I am a planner. I like to have a plan. It's a comforting feeling. I wanted to ensure I got the most out of my quick trip. My need for a plan was perfect because the girlfriend I was visiting is also a planner! We spent a few days prior to my trip texting back and forth about what I wanted to make sure I did during my visit. In no particular order...

Plan:
1. Catch Up.
2. Relax
3. Beach.
4. Beach.
5. Eat good food.
6. Explore the Everglades.
7. Day trip to Miami.

Once the basics were established, we figured out the details. The weather was perfect every day. The one day it did end up raining in Naples, we were headed to Miami. Our planning could not be more perfect! My friend Carolina, grew up in Miami and she had mentioned that I would fall in love with Wynwood, Miami. Boy was she right! Maria and I decided to spend a whole day exploring the area.

Wynwood is an art district that is the home of more than 70 art galleries, retail shops, antique shops, restaurants, and bars. The area used to be the warehouse and manufacturing district of greater Miami. Warehouses, factories, and buildings were transformed into an area crawling with life, art, food, and culture. There is literally art everywhere you look. That was what I found so gorgeous about Wynwood.

Favorites:
Panther Coffee- I had an affagato and it was to die for!
Wynwood Walls- A bloggers paradise. A series of wall murals all in an open area.
Beaker & Gray- Restaurant and Bar that has a sexy industrial design. The brunch was amazing delicious!
Joey's- Best fig, gorgonzola, and honey pizza I have ever had.

Deciding to spend an entire morning/afternoon in Wynwood was a great idea. We spent hours walking around not even knowing where exactly we wanted to go. We did start at Panther Coffee...because well, duh. COFFEE to start the day! Other than that being our one planned location, every other part of the day was not planned. I am already excited to plan a trip back. It is the kind of area where each time you visit, you are bound to see something different and new.  I highly recommend visiting. If you are interested in knowing more about the area and what events are happening Wynwood Walls has that and so much more!

I know have the travel bug and want to plan my next trip. I am considering a West Coast stop in July. Always open to suggestions!! Would love to hear some of your favorite places!

Black and Grey

Happy Valentine's Day friends! Sorry I fell off blog post land last week. Things are just fine over here, but busy! I am getting ready for a weekend away in Florida and can not wait! I am headed to see a girlfriend of mine who lives in Fort Myers. Growing up we were next-door neighbors and were inseparable. We spent basically all of our time together. Fast forward to around the time I was getting ready to move to North Carolina, she was also going through some life changing events. We lost touch for a little bit, but over the past few years we have been rebuilding the friendship we so cherished for so many years.

"Growing apart doesn't change the fact that for a long time we grew side by side; our roots will always be tangled. I'm glad for that."

I don't know about the weather by you all, but here in Charlotte it has been super erratic and unpredictable!  The cold weather is still upon us, but we have been getting these random days that smell and feel just like spring. However, when the days are cold, they are cold. I have been able to wear some of my favorite layered looks, which are perfect for those winter days.

While my wardrobe consists of mostly black, grey, white, and neutrals, I do like trying to find pieces that stand out in one way or another. Cardigans are great for creating a layered look. This particular one is from Marshals. The pattern helps bring a little something different without being too busy. The two sweaters I linked for you in the post are very similar in pattern and cut. To add to the layered look, I accessorized with a favorite infinity scarf and decided to keep the scarf long by not wrapping it around my neck twice.

I decided to wear my faux leather leggings from H&M. We all know I live through the winter season in leggings and this pair is not only comfortable, but also look great on. They are well worth the $24.99! A good pair of OTK Boots are the perfect pairing to throw on over your leggings. I have to say mine have definitely been put to good use this season.

Love and Hugs!

Over the weekend I went and saw La La Land. I can not tell you what an AMAZING and INSPIRING movie. You have to see it for yourself. This movie is definitely for all the dreamers and creatives out there. Or for those that just have a MAJOR crush on Ryan Gosling. It makes you reflect. It makes you think. It makes you question. I guess my point is that if you are passionate about something, listen to your heart. Do something that is fulfilling. Take a chance. Put your whole being into something.

That is why I started Simple As. I needed an outlet where I could display my passion for clothes, trends, outfits and knowing that I couldn't and wouldn't just quit my day job. By starting my blog I was acknowledging my passion and creating something that makes me smile, makes me proud, challenges me, and helps me appreciate myself and others.

"People love what other people are passionate about."
-Mia (La La Land)

I did my best to find you a few similar tops to mine. I am in love with the color and I like how the color is one that can transition across all seasons. My sweater is an oldie that I picked up from my local Marshalls. Last week I shared some tips for shopping in Marshalls and TJ Maxx. If you missed it, be sure to check it out here

Didn't I warn you that you would be seeing these jeggings a lot?!? Well, here they are again. I am telling you, the comfort and stretch of these jeggings are exactly what every person who loves the look of jeans, but hates the fit have been looking for. I pulled out a pair of my favorite casual boots. The buckle adds a little bit of dressiness.

This time of the season you can find some really great sales and deals on all things winter. My suggestion is to shop your favorite stores both online and in person. Stores are pushing their spring lines even though it is still the middle of winter. These pom pom beanies have been hugely popular this year. I have found a few variations and colors that I think you will like! Mine is from H&M, but is no longer on their website, but check out your local store and you just may come across this one or some others!

See you all next week! Go and see La La Land and let me know what you think!
-Xoxo

I hope everyone is having a great start to their week! I spent my rainy weekend grading spelling inventories and playing "The Search for Everything" on repeat ALL WEEKEND. John Mayer has been my favorite musician since my early days of high school when "Room for Squares" came out. I know I am not the only one who heard "Your Body is a Wonderland" and imagined he wrote that song just for you. Hahaha! I have appreciated his music through out the years and love how he is ever evolving.

This past Friday he released his first 4 songs from his newest album! He is trying something new and is slowly releasing his songs in what he is calling "waves." You all need to do yourself a favor and have a listen. I am such a music lover and you are more likely to walk into my house with my Amazon Echo blaring whatever station/artist matches my mood than my television being on. I can't imagine life without music.

Ok, enough swooning over John Mayer. Haha. A big part of why I blog is because I want to be able to share looks with you that are trendy, but also won't necessarily cost you a lot. I am sure most of you have noticed a lot of my pieces come from Forever 21, H&M, and Target. However, I highly suggest you scope out your local Marshalls and TJ Max.

I spend a lot of time shopping the racks in those two stores. You can find some AMAZING deals and honestly they carry a lot of name brands. I am not one who needs or owns lots of designer pieces, but that doesn't mean I don't jump for joy when I do find a piece that I adore and it is also a designer brand! WIN!
Tips and Tricks:

1. Have patience and take time- They are not always the most organized and you do have to spend a good amount of time browsing the racks if you want to find some treasures, but for me that is part of the fun.

2. Shop alone- I find when I am by myself I can be more relaxed and enjoy my time in these stores. The only other person I can shop with is my mom. We can go our separate ways and check in every once in a while for an opinion.

3. Ask questions- Don't be afraid to ask an employee what day/s and time their shipments arrive.

4. Go early- The earlier you go and even better on a day of a shipment, the bigger the selection and the neater the store will be.

5. Discounts- The merchandise is all ready reduced, but if you see an imperfection with the item, ask if they are able to take an additional percentage off. It never hurts to ask!

5. Have fun- Duh!

I would love to hear about some of your favorite places to shop! Not just for clothes, but for all things life! I will see you all back in a week! This is a crazy week at work, but be sure to check in on my  Instagram feed
